Critical telecommunications infrastructure has successfully been delivered at Western Sydney International (Nancy Bird) Airport.

TransGrid Telecommunications was contracted to carry out connection works at the site in Badgerys Creek.

These works included stringing 20km of optical ground wire (OPGW) conductor from the Sydney West Substation to the airport site. This connection incorporates high speed WaveLink and Internet connectivity over the TransGrid fibre network.

The completion of this telecommunications infrastructure comes on the heels of TransGrid’s successful delivery of critical electricity supply to the Western Sydney International Airport site.

The transmission project included the relocation of 3.2km of above ground high-voltage power line, which was critical to allow a substantial program of works to take place for the Airport, including the major program of earthworks that started in 2018.

The Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre is open to the public, allowing visitors to learn more about the Airport and the benefits it will bring to Western Sydney through an interactive digital experience.

TransGrid’s Head of Telecommunications, Glenn Wood, said, “We are delighted to have been selected by Western Sydney International Airport to provide key telecommunications services at the Airport’s site office and Experience Centre.”

TransGrid Telecommunications’ Senior Business Development Manager, Enterprise and Government, Naveen Bhutani, said, “TransGrid Telecommunications is also providing high speed scalable and secure data services to utilities and renewable energy projects in metro and regional NSW to enable better connectivity and SCADA communications”.
