A Territory Plan waiver has been granted to the Ginninderry project in the ACT, allowing an all-electric pilot project for stage one of the development.

The entire development, a joint venture between the ACT government and Riverview Developments, will encompass 1000 hectares of land in the ACT bordering the Murrumbidgee River and 600 hectares across the border in NSW.

Stage one of the development will include approximately 350 dwellings with residents able to access a complete Home Energy Package, including mandatory solar panels and energy management systems.

Together with high efficiency appliances, residents will be able to keep an eye on their energy usage, while helping them to save money on their home energy.

The Ginninderry team have been working with Evoenergy to explore a range of sustainable energy options for the development.

The Ginninderry Energy Pilot Project will allow Evoenergy, the ACT Government and the Ginninderry Joint Venture the ability to analyse the environmental and economic impact of a fully electric residential area, and the impact on the electricity grid when a large proportion of solar panels are installed within a suburb.

Ginninderry’s Sustainability Manager, Jessica Stewart, said, “It’s exciting to be part of a project that is not afraid to be a leader in the field of energy systems.

“By implementing a fully electric residential homes solution in our first stage, we are helping the ACT Government pave the way towards its target for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. It makes sense for new houses to optimise the use of renewable power through a suite of highly efficient electric appliances.”
