SA Power Networks is powering ahead with its $4 million refurbishment of the Whyalla City substation to improve power reliability prior to the high summer electricity demand.
The work began in June and will continue until late November 2020.
Most construction will be kept within the substation site with the exception of the delivery of a mobile substation, which requires work on the kerb on Gowrie Avenue to support 57 tonnes. Council has approved this access.
SA Power Networks said it is using the mobile substation to keep the power on to Whyalla city and surrounds while it replaces the equipment within the substation. However, when connecting and disconnecting the mobile substation, power disconnection will be necessary for the safety of its crews.
The estimated site preparation for the mobile substation is in the last week of July, and SA Power Networks expect to connect it in the first week of August 2020. The mobile substation will remain until November when the work is completed.
Work will usually be carried out Monday to Friday between 8am to 5pm, and on weekends between 8am-4pm.
SA Power Networks said it will provide confirmation of any power outages with advance notice related to this essential work eight working days’ prior to the interruption for those with a registered mobile or email, and four working days’ notice to everyone else via a posted card.
